11th-Generation Honda Civic Type-R 2023

The most recent version of the Honda Civic Type R, one of the most adored and respected names in the automotive industry, is finally here. This is the FL5, the hottest version of the 11th generation Civic and the follow-up to the beloved FK8, a sixth-generation Civic Type R with a hatchback body. The FK2, which debuted the turbo moniker, came before that. Before that, there were a number of amazing naturally aspirated VTEC engines found in the FN2, EP3, and the EK9, which was the original. Of course, it would be impossible to overlook the FD2, the first Type R vehicle to be offered for sale in Malaysia, the only nation outside of Japan to receive the JDM sedan.

More aerodynamic, slimmer design

Design of Honda Type-R

The FL5 retains the sharper lines of the FK8, instead building on the more mature styling of the 11th generation Civic. Rather, the new vehicle has a more streamlined appearance, which is emphasized by the powerful fenders that are now completely integrated into the body. To lower the air pressure in the wheelhouse, these are vented at the front. The large intercooler on the new Type R is fed by a larger front grille and air intake, while a new extractor vent in the bonnet—now made of lightweight aluminum—dissipates heat and lowers front lift. Cooling was a major complaint with the FK8. The large diffuser, which houses the recognizable triple exhausts, and the much wider wing at the back work together to increase downforce.

Performance Engine Type-R

Turbocharged Engine

Under the air-vent aluminium bonnet sits a powerful K20C1 engine from Honda, which has been upgraded to produce outstanding performance. The engine now generates a powerful 420Nm of torque between 2,600 and 4,000 rpm and a startling 319PS at 6,500 rpm thanks to improvements made to the exhaust system, air intake flow rate, and turbocharger. The Type R's transformation solidifies its position as one of the most potent vehicles in its class. The Type R has an accurate 6-speed manual gearbox that has been upgraded with a new rev-match mechanism and a lighter flywheel to help with cornering stability. High-strength parts, such as an upgraded shift gate arrangement and a high-rigidity lever, improve gear changes, and a helical-style limited-slip differential efficiently transfers power to the road.

Variants Colors

The all-new 2023 Honda Civic Type-R is available in 5 color options - Boost Blue Pearl, Championship White, Crystal Black Pearl, Rallye Red and Sonic Gray Pearl.

Exterior & Interior

Although the Type R's interior features better materials and a honeycomb full-width air conditioning vent design, it has the same basic dashboard layout as the rest of the Civic lineup. The red lightweight sports seats, which are now positioned 8mm lower, and the steering wheel are both adorned with suede upholstery, making the Type R unique. In addition, the dash plaque has a unique number, the pedals are made of stainless steel, and the gear knob is shaped like a teardrop made of aluminum. The red carpets are reminiscent of the iconic EK9 Civic Type R.

The Type R has a nine-inch centre touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, just like other Civic models. Drivers can now monitor a variety of vehicle metrics, such as G-forces, engine, water, and oil temperatures, and even the maximum grip on all four tires, with the help of a new LogR performance monitor. The previously mentioned metrics are also recorded by a lap timer, and drivers can enhance their performance on the track with the aid of a new scoring system. All of this information is either kept on file in the car or uploaded to the cloud, from which the Honda LogR 2.0 app allows users to access it. The Google Play Store and Apple App Store offer the latter.
